Navigating injuries & bad weather in the fantasy playoffs: Week 15 starts & sits

The playoffs are here. Hopefully your rosters are set and you weren’t counting on Justin Herbert to lead you to the promised land, as he is the latest in a lengthy list of quarterbacks lost for the season.

If you did lose Herbert, maybe you played Aidan O’Connell and his four TDs on Thursday night?

It’s the time of the season to handcuff your running backs and pay attention to the next three weeks’ matchups in positions where you stream – such as defense or, this year, possibly quarterback. Stockpile where you can.

It’s also the time of year to pay attention to the weather. Several games may be affected by rain or wind this week, including the Dolphins-Jets, Jaguars-Ravens, Falcons-Panthers, Bills-Cowboys and Bears-Browns matchups. Adjust accordingly, but keep in mind that none of these weather conditions appear to be extreme.

As we delve into the fantasy postseason, here are Week 15’s starts and sits:

QB:

Starts:

Matthew Stafford, Rams: He’s thrown 10 touchdowns in his last three games and this week he’s at home, with an apparently fully healthy Cooper Kupp, and facing what’s left of Washington’s pitiful defense. Fire him up.

Sits:

Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins: His production has dipped of late (he’s averaging 13.8 fantasy points through his last five games) Tyreek Hill could either miss the game or at least be limited, and the forecast calls for wind and rain. Oh yeah, the Jets allow the fewest fantasy points in the league to opposing quarterbacks.

RB:

Starts:

Bijan Robinson, Falcons: Carolina looks like prime explosion spot for Bijan – they’re allowing the third-most fantasy points to running backs in the league, and game script should be in his favor.

Zack Moss, Colts: The points haven’t been there since Moss took back over for the injured Jonathan Taylor, but the usage has been elite. Follow the volume. The touchdowns are going to come. With two LBs out, the Steelers are having trouble covering RBs right now and Moss had eight targets last week.

Kyren Williams, Rams: He’s gone over 100 yards of total offense in all three of his games since returning from IR and the Commanders’ defense doesn’t look capable of breaking that streak.

Sits:

James Conner, Cardinals: He’s lost carries now that Dameon Pierce is back (14 carries in the last two weeks) and the yards will be tough to come by against a stingy Jets defense.

Kenneth Walker III, Seahawks: Another week, another brutal matchup for the Seahawks’ run game. Philly has a burnable secondary, but a rock-solid front four.

WR:

Starts:

D.K. Metcalf, Seahawks: Geno Smith looks ready to return and the way to attack Philadelphia is through the air. Metcalf has scored in three of his last four games.

Courtland Sutton, Broncos: He has scored in 10 of 14 games this year and the Lions defense has been burnable through the air of late.

Sits:

Calvin Ridley, Jaguars: It’ll be tempting to fire him up with Christian Kirk out, but Trevor Lawrence is limited by his ankle injury, this could be a bad weather game and Baltimore’s defense has been a stay-away unit for most of the season.

Marquise Brown, Cardinals: He hasn’t broken double digits in standard since Week 5, he’s dealing with a heel injury and points will be tough to come by against a stout 49ers defense.

TE:

As with any week, play anyone who’s getting quality targets. If you have Travis Kelce, T.J. Hockenson, George Kittle or Sam LaPorta, congratulations. Isaiah Likely might be a nice streaking option against a Jacksonvllle defense that’s allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to tight end and in projected conditions that might favor frequent check-downs.
